NSS unit of the college focuses on involving young students in various community development activities to build a sense of social awareness and civic responsibility among them. The scheme encourages students to participate in a variety of programs related to education, awareness, healthcare, sanitation, environmental conservation and rural development among others. Through these activities, NSS fosters qualities such as leadership, discipline, empathy, teamwork and a deep commitment to society. It provides an opportunity for the students to grow as responsible citizens while also enriching their own lives with valuable experiences.

NSS (National Service Scheme) unit enrols more than 250 Volunteers, both boys and girls, every year. Major activities performed by NSS Volunteers include

     1.  Tree Plantation/ Van Mahotsava
    2.  Blood Donation Camps
    3.  7  day NSS Camp
    4.  One Day Camp
    5.  Organisation of College functions etc.

 

NSS Camp(24 Dec- 31 Dec 2024)

A total of 200 volunteers were enrolled for NSS in the session 2023-24. The major NSS activities include A Seven days special NSS camp on the theme ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Meri Maati Mera Desh’, Van Mahotsava, Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign, Amrit Kalash Yatra under Meri Maati Mera Desh Campaign, Blood Donation Camp, Extension lectures, Commemoration of days of National/ International Importance, Cleanliness drives, Awareness rally, Cycle rally along with other diverse activities reflecting the essence of selfless service and volunteerism.

                                                                                    Activities of the session 2023-24

  1. NSS unit observed World Environment day on 5-06-2023 by planting trees in the college campus.
  2. Under the Nationwide campaign of "Meri Maati Mera Desh" to celebrate Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava, NSS unit conducted a Mega Plantation drive at village Kauri on 09-08-2023. A total of 75 indigenous plants were planted at the identified locations of the Village. 45 NSS volunteers participated in this drive. A pledge ceremony on the theme "PanchPran" was also conducted.
  3. A poster/ slogan exhibition on HIV/AIDS awareness was organized on 12-08-2023 in the Career Guidance Hall of the college to sensitize the students. 36 NSS volunteers prepared posters and slogans about AIDS awareness.
  4. NSS unit in collaboration with Punjab National Bank, branch A.S. College conducted a Plantation drive at the college campus on the occasion of Independence Day, 15-08-2023.
  5. On 17-09-2023, NSS volunteers participated enthusiastically in various Swachhta Hi Sewa activities under the ‘Swachhta League 2.0’ organized by Municipal corporation Khanna at A.S. College for women, Khanna. 13 volunteers participated in poster making competition, 8 volunteers participated in making best out of waste activity and 2 volunteers participated in poem recitation activity. Sneha and Baljotkaurof B.Sc 1st year got 2nd and 3rd prize respectively in the poster making competition.
  6. Under the campaign of Swacchta Hi Sewa, A Seminar on the theme Single use plastic, its environmental impact and ban on its use was organized on 20-09-2023. Dr. Sanjay Talwani, Dean Sports and Head Dept.of Biology was the Resource person of the event. NSS volunteer, Shivam Saddi of B.Sc 3 recited a poem on Swachhta Hi Sewa.
  7. Under the campaign of Swacchta Hi Sewa, A Seminar on the theme Waste Management was organized on 26-09-2023 at A.S College Khanna.  Dr. Sanjay Talwani, Dean Sports and Head Dept.of Biology was the Resource person of the event. He delivered an enlightening talk on various causes and the challenges before us in waste management.
  8. NSS Unit of A.S. College, Khanna organized a Cycle rally on 28-09-2023 dedicated to Swacchta Hi Sewa under the Swacchta campaign. Thevolunteers enrouted village Kauri, KalalMajra during their rally. They carried various Swacchta Slogans to sensitize the people about Cleanliness, Tree plantation, Hazards of plastic use etc.
  9. On 29-09-2023, under Swacchta hi Sewa campaign, a Declamation Contest on the themeEnvironment Conservation was also organized by Rural engagement cell of the College in collaboration with the NSS unit of the College. 13 students participated in this contest. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the event.
  10. On 2-10-2023, various activities dedicated to swachhta hi sewa campaingn were conducted by NSS unit of the College. A pledge ceremony was conducted. A Seminar on the theme swachhta hi sewa was also organized. Making best out of waste exhibition, poster/ slogan exhibition and a Cleanliness drive was also conducted in the College campus by the volunteers. In view of the enthusiastic participation of NSS unit of the College in various Swachhta activities, the College received an appreciation certificate from the Municipal Council Khanna.
  11. N.S.S. unit organized an Amrit Kalash Yatra under the campaign of "Meri Maati Mera Desh" in collaboration with Municipal Council Khanna on 12/10/2023. Students from 42 villages/cities collected the sample of soils and rice for this event. During this kalashyatra College Principle Dr. R. S. Jhanji, Ms. Navreet Kaur and Mr. Manindersingh (Program Coordinator, Swach Bharat Mission), Ms. Paramjeet Kaur and Mr. Jaswindersingh (Sanitary supervisor) from Municipal Council along with 80 students were present. After completion of rally, Both Kalash were handed over to the officials of Municipal Council Khanna. In view of this event college received an appreciation certificate from officials of Municipal Council Khanna.
  12. N.S.S. unit organized integrity pledge ceremony on 31-10-2023 in Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW)- 2023 from 30th Oct to 5th Nov, 2023 with the theme “ Say no to Corruption: commit to the nation”. This event was organized in the memory of  birthday of SardarVallabhbhai Patel.66 NSS volunteers participated in the pledge taking ceremony and took the pledge to follow probity and rule of law in all walks of life, anti- bribe, performing all task with honesty and transparency in public interest etc.
  13. The unit also organized a Pledge taking ceremony on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity day) on 31-10-23. The volunteers took the pledge to foster and reinforce our dedication to preserve and strengthen the unity, integrity and security of our Nation.
  14. NSS unit observed the National constitution day on 26-11-2023. The volunteers read the Preamble to the constitution in the college. Many volunteers read the Preamble in online mode and receivede- certificates.
  15. A special Seven days NSS camp was organized by NSS unit (Boys and girls) of A.S.College Khanna on the theme *Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Meri MaatiMeraDesh* from 25-12-2023 to 31-12-2023. A total of 67 volunteers participated in this camp. Commemoration of veer baaldiwas, a poster/ slogan making competition on the theme swachhbharatabhiyan and Meri MaatiMeraDesh, special lectures on Stress Management and Food Safety, a PowerPoint presentation competition on the theme Ekbharat, Shrestha Bharat, Cleanliness drive at College campus and Village Kauri, Salad making competitions , Awareness rally in the Village Kauri, A visit to old age home Khanna were the various activities of this seven days camp. A medal ceremony was organized for all the camp participants. Manish Kumar and Yogita Sharma were declared Best NSS Boy and girl volunteer respectively.
  16. National Youth day was celebrated on 12-01-2024 by the NSS unit. A speech activity was organized on the Life and Teachings of the Great philosopher Swami Vivekananda.  The winners of the activity were awarded prizes. NSS volunteers also virtually participated in the inaugural event of The National youth Festival 2024.
  17. National Girl Child day was marked by the NSS unit on 24-01-24. A poster slogan exhibition on the day was organized to celebrate the day.
  18. National Voters Day was observed on 25-01-24 by the unit. The volunteers participated in speech activity on the theme ‘Nothing like voting- I vote for sure’. Afterwards, a pledge ceremony was also conducted.
  19. An extension lecture on road Safety was organized on 23-02-24. Prof. Gagandeep Sethi, Head P.G. department of Political Science of the college was the resource person. He disseminated important information about Road safety measures.
  20. NSS Unit and Eco club of College  organized an awareness lecture on 23-04-24 under Environment Education Programme in Collaboration with State Nodal Agency Punjab State Council for Science and Technology supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change GOI.  Dr. Sanjay Talwani, Head department of Biology delivered an enlightening talk about environment degradation and sensitized the students about various measures to control the pollution
  21. After the lecture session, an exhibition based on the theme “Making Best out of Waste” was also organized in which 13 NSS volunteers prepared decorative and useful items from the waste material.
  22. Afterwards, Mission life Pledge ceremony was conducted in which all present took a pledge to protect our environment.At the end, winners of the 'Making Best out of waste competition' were declared. All the winners were awarded prizes and certificates by the College Principal Dr K.K Sharma and the Resource person Dr Sanjay Talwani. Prof. Ravinder Jeet Singh, Dr. Monika Thakur, Dr. Jasdeep Kaur, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Dr. Arun Singla and Prof. Pulkit along with 60 NSS volunteer were present  in the event.
  23. NSS Unit and Eco club celebrated World Environment day on 05 Jun, 2024 under Environment Education Programme in Collaboration with State Nodal Agency Punjab State Council for Science and Technology supported by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change. The theme of the event was land restoration, stopping desertification and building drought resilience. Gen. Sec. of the College Managing Committee Sh. Barinder Dewett, S. Sukhmanjeet Singh MC  Khanna, Sh. Rajesh Dewett Owner Global makeover IELTS institute and Dr. Sanjay Talwani (Ex. HOD Biology department) graced the event. The event started with floral welcome to the guests by Worthy Principal Dr. Afterwards, Mission Life pledge taking ceremony was conducted followed by tree plantation drive. Various fruits and medicinal plants such as mango, guava, mulberries, neem etc. were planted in the botanical garden of the College. Water vessels for birds were also plaved in the campus. Incharge Eco Club Dr. Charan kumar, NSS POs Dr. Monika Thakur, Dr. Mahesh Kumar and Dr. Arun Singla along with NSS Volunteers were present.

NSS Activities during the Session 2022-23

  1. NSS Unit of Boys and Girls celebrated HarGharTiranga Contest on August 15, 2022. Volunteers have taken the selfie with Tiranga along with their family members. Ms. Surbhi of BSc Final got best selfie award.
  2. NSS Unit of A.S. College, Khanna organized Iconic week from August 15, 2022 to August 22, 2022. All seven days activities have done related with Independence during this week.
  3. To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, an Essay writing competition was conducted on October 2, 2022 on the topic “Non-Violence is the Weapon of Strong.”
  4. NSS Unit of A.S. College, Khanna celebrated National Unity Day on November 01, 2022 in which 124 volunteers participated in it. Mr. ShivamSaddi, Ms. Gazal and Ms. Harshpreet Kaur delivered the speeches regarding the contribution of SardarVallabhbhai Patel.
  5. Anti Narcotic Club of A.S. College, Khanna organized an extension lecture on the topic, “Prevention from Drug and Treatment” on November 12, 2022. Volunteers of NSS Unit participated in this lecture.
  6. Under the banner of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, NSS Unit in collaboration with Department of Political Science celebrated Constitution Day on November 26, 2022.
  7. A Yoga lecture was organized by NSS Unit on January 08, 2023 during NSS Camp. Yoga expert SamritiVashisht delivered lecture and talked with volunteers regarding the benefits of Yoga.
  8. NSS Unit of A.S. College, Khanna celebrated National Sidha Day during NSS Camp on January 09, 2023. Five teams took part in Salad making competition.
  9. A cleanliness drive was conducted in Government School at Village KalalMajra on January 10, 2023. Thirty volunteers participated in this drive.
  10. In Collaboration with Shri KrishanMurariBedi Foundation, NSS Unit of A.S. College, Khanna organized a blood donation camp on January 11, 2023. 20 volunteers and 1 programme officer donated the blood.
  11. NSS Unit of A.S. College, Khanna organized National Youth Day on January 12, 2023 during NSS Camp. A Rally of 72 volunteers was originated from College to Village KalalMajra.
  12. A seven days NSS Camp was organized by NSS Unit from January 07, 2023 to January 13, 2023.

                                                                           

                                                NSS Activities 2021-2022

1.     Fifty volunteers participated in a two days cleanliness drive under the theme Clean India on 18 October and 19 October 2021organised by NSS Unit, A.S. College, khanna.

2.     A pledge taking ceremony was organized in the NSS Park to commemorate National Unity Day on 30th October 2021. Fifty one volunteers participated in the event.

3.     A two days cleanliness drive was organized at college campus on 10th and 11th December 2021. Seventy three volunteers participated in this drive.

4.     On 10th December 2021 a speech activity was held on the theme Voter Awareness. Volunteers expressed their views on this said theme.

5.     A debate competition was organized by NSS Unit College on the theme Right to Vote is a Way to bring Good Governance. Six volunteers participated and eighteen  volunteers attended this event.

6.      Fourteen volunteers participated in an essay writing competition on the topic Local Unsung Heroes of the Freedom Struggle of India under the ambit of Azadi Ka                Amrit Mahotsava. Selected four essays were forwarded on 10th January 2022 to NSS Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh for participation in National Youth            Festival 2022.

7.      NSS Programme Officer Dr. Arun Singla and 10 volunteers donated blood in the blood donation camp organized by Red Cross Society in the memory of Sh. Krishan           Murari Bedi on 11th January 2022.

8.     Sixty volunteers registered and participated in National Youth Festival 2022 held on 12 and 13 January 2022.

9.     Sixty eight volunteers participated in an online webinar on National Youth Day, 12 January 2022 organized by Department of Youth Welfare, Panjab University,                   Chandigarh.

10.  N.S.S Unit of A.S. College, Khanna participated in an online quiz contest on the subject “Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Defence Production and Apna Desh Apna Hathiyar”      at the platform of MyGov during 5 January 2022 to 20 January 2022 to celebrate the Republic Day.  Eighty four volunteers participated in the quiz and after the                    completion of quiz they got e-certificate.

11.   Under the theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava, ten volunteers participated in an online Desh Bhakti Geet Writing and Patriotic Lori Writing and two volunteers                   participated in Rangoli Making Competitions and got e-certificates.
