Library Timings
Monday to Saturday: 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Library has been divided into different sections for its smooth functioning:
1. Circulation Section
This section contains general text books related with various subjects. Library has an open access system. All the books have been arranged from 001 to 999 according to Dewey Decimal Classification System.
2. Reference Section
This section contains important reference books on all subjects. Besides this, dictionaries, encyclopedias, thesaurus, travel guides, competitive books, maps, gazetteers, collected works and Year Books are also available in this section.
3. Periodical Section
More than 50 magazines/periodicals and 12 daily newspapers in Hindi, English and Punjabi are received in this section of the library.
4. Reading Room
The Reading Room has a capacity to accommodate 150 students at a time.
Services
Issue and Return
This section is the hub of library activities where lending out of books to readers is facilitated. The circulation of books for home use is a major public service provided by the library. All the members of the library visit this section for getting books on loan for home use.
Book bank facility
Library provides book bank facility to the needy and deserving students for the whole session. The issued Text books have to be returned after annual examination.
Reference Services
The function of library is three fold. Library acquires information, organizes a way so that it can be retrieved easily by the members. Reference service fulfils this last function. It provides assistance in locating the required material to access information and to use basic reference sources.
Interrnet Facility
U.G.C. NETWORK Resource Centre is established in the Library.Eight Computer Terminals have been placed for users for accessing Internet. However, only educational sites are allowed for surfing.
Reprography Services
The reprographic facilities are available in the Library for the students and faculty members at very nominal charges.
Linkage with other Libraries
Though, we are having a best-resourced library, but we cannot offer everything that every possible user may wish to access at one time. For the purpose of fulfilling the requirements of our readers we provide membership of Panjab University Extension Library, Ludhiana and A. C. Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh also.
E- Resources
To provide access to e-resources to students and faculty members of the college, library has also subscribed N-List Programme of INFLIBNET, Gandhinagar. Under this more than 6000+e-journals and 97300+books are available to the users of library.The Library of college came into existence in 1946 having just two small rooms and a limited number of books. In 1993-94, the Library was renovated and got its own block as a separate building having one reading hall and two study rooms.The library has got a treasure of approximately 40,000 books,100 periodicals and 13 dailies.There are books related to each subject like: English Literature, Hindi Literature, Punjabi Literature, Sanskrit, Urdu Literature, Persian Literature, French Literature, History, Political Science, Economics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Commerce, Computer Science, Health and Physical Education, Religion, General Knowledge, Referance Books, N.C.C. Books (Military Science ), Pshchocology, Sociology Education, Biographies, Travel Guides etc.
Besides books magzines and newspapers, various other useful facilities are also available to the students. ZEROX facility is also available for the members on nominal charges. The reading room can accomodate about 150 members at a time.
An Audio-Visual Room is also there in the library where members can watch educational and recreational movies. The Library is also equipped with a Taperecorder, a Television, a V.C.R. and a CD Player . The INTERNET facility is also available to the members to meet their eduactional requirements. They can surf internet to get the information regarding any subject of their choice.
