Biology Depatment
Department of Biology was started in this college in 1967 for catering the needs of medical students. Till then it has produced thousands of science medical graduates and hundreds of students who got admitted in MBBS. Initially 5 year course was studied i.e from Prep, Pre medical upto graduation but in 2001, 11th & 12th were shifted to schools & now only degree courses are taught.
Besides offering degree course (B.Sc.1,2,3), the department also offers 3 year Add on Course in Bio- Technology i.e Diploma, Certificate & Advanced diploma course. The department has 3 fully equipped laboratoties of Botany , Zoology and Bio-technology and a Museum. The department has its own departmental library also having about 2000 books (course books as well as reference books)for the students.
Annual features of the department include
- Celebration of Environment day, Bio- diversity week, Science day, Aids day and many more such days
- One day compulsory trip to hills for the onsight study of Flora & fauna of a perticular area.
- Workshop cum exhibition of Medicinal plants
- Training to students for making vermicompost as well as Mushroom culturing.
- Short field trips to study local Flora & fauna.

Activities undertaken During the Ongoing Session 2024-2025
- Teachers’ Day Celebrations (September 05, 2024)
The Biology Association celebrated The Teachers’ Day on September 05, 2024 in the Botany Lab of the Department. On this occasion, Principal Dr. K.K. Sharma emphasized the need and role of discipline in a student’s life. He highlighted that a teacher is a good friend, a guide and a philosopher who shapes the character and career of the youth. Dr.Manpreet Kaur, Dr. Monika Thakur, Prof. Bhoomika, Prof. Harshil and Prof. Simranjeet Kaur were also present on this occasion. Dr. Charan Kumar, Head of the Department of Biology shared the role of Biology Association in academic, field and research activities being undertaken by the Department.
- Exhibition on Photography Equipment (September 19, 2024)
The Biology Association and the Photography Club of the college organized an exhibition on Photography equipment in the Zoology Lab of the Department. As a part of the event of Photography Contest by the Chemical Association, this event was targeted at providing tips for field photography, components of field kit, care of the kit components. The displayed equipment included: DSLR Cameras, Telephoto Lens, Remote controls, tripod stands, Sound Recorders, Editing Software, Snake Cameras, Spying Cameras, Gimbals,cleaning kit, circular lights, field clothing etc. The participants were also given some quick photography tips for better photography.
- Exhibition cum Workshop on Wood, Beads & Resin (October 09 - 10, 2024)
The Red Ribbon Club and the Biology Association organized a two days workshop on Wood. Beads and Resin in the Alumni Career Guidance Hall of the college on October 09 & 10, 2024. Mrs Manisha Sood inaugurated the workshop on the first day and Dr. Rajesh Modi renowned Plastic Surgeon visited the exhibition on the second day. Worthy college Secretary Sh. Ajai Sood, Principal Dr. K.K Sharma and staff members also visited the exhibition. This event was a big success and hundreds of students from arts, science and commerce streams visited the exhibition and also interacted with the organizers of the event. Dr. Charan Kumar provided useful tips on wood art, resin work, intarsia art etc. More than 60 DIY project items were on the display.
Biology Department Activities
1. Celebrated World habitat & World Wildlf Week at village Salaudi on 4-10-2021. Apicture exhibition of Birds of local area was also displayed . All the biology teachers and students went to the village and interacted with the villagers.
2. Celebrated National Science Day at A.S.Senior Secondary School, Khanna on 25-2-2022. Teachersfrom Biology, Chemistry and Physics departments
displayed minor experiments to the students of XI and XII classes to create awareness and interest about science.
3. Dr. Charan exhibited the Electric Scooter made by him on the science day to the teachers and students of the school.
4. Dr. Charn, incharge of Waris Shah Museum, organised an exhibition for 2 days in which all Arts & Craft items of winners of Inter Zonal Youth festival
participants were displayed to the college students on 8-9, March, 2022.
5. The department organised Workshop cum Exhibition of 29 medicinal plants on 5-4-2022.
6. 44 Students ob B.Sc. Medical classes went to Kasaulli and adjoining areas for One day trip.
